Phoksumdo
National Park:
Shey-Phoksundo National Park(3,555 sq. km) is in the
Dolpo Region and the biggest park in Nepal and the
largest National Park in the country. The park spreads
over Dolpo and Mugu Districts of western Nepal.
Geographical landmarks of the park are the northern
snow-capped Himalayan peaks and the Lake Phoksumdo.
Luxuriant forests of blue pine, spruce, cypress, poplar,
deodar, fir and birch are found here. it is a primal
habitat for the snow leopard and the blue sheep; so also
for ghoral, Himalayan tahr, serow, leopard, wolf,
jackal, Himalayan black bear, Himalayan weasel,
Himalayan mouse hare, yellow-throated marten, langur and
rhesus monkeys. The park is equally rich in many kinds
of birds. The park contains 286 flora species of
botanical importance. In the upper region is seen the
rare and endangered snowleopard. Other species of birds
including yellow-throated marten, Tibetan partridge,
wood snipe, white-throated tit, wood accentor and
crimson-eared rose finch are found in the park. Apart
from these , the park is home to 6 species of reptiles
and 29 species of butterfly. |
